Espresso Trinken

About

It's probably the question we've been asked the most in recent months: 'Why did you come up with the idea to develop an espresso machine when there are already so many?' For us, the answer is actually quite simple: 'Because a machine like this doesn't exist yet!'

Of course, there are machines where you can control all the parameters: pressure, temperature, coffee quantity. You end up with computer-like devices in the kitchen that can do all that. But do we really want that? Do we want to be able to control everything every day?

Or do we sometimes just want to press a button and have our best coffee? Every morning. Always with the exact same pressure, the same temperature, the same amount as the day before, and the day before that.

And then, we also wanted to build a machine that looks simple, beautiful, and elegant.

We believe we've achieved that: The Roxy can be both a coffee lab and an everyday companion. And we think the Roxy looks damn good.

The question of the perfect shot still needs to be answered: How does the taste change when we brew with six or nine bars of pressure? What do two milliliters of flow per second mean for the coffee flavour, and what happens when, during a turbo shot, 4.5 milliliters per second pass through the brew group?

About three years ago, we made the decision to develop, design, and build a completely new machine. The machine was to be as energy-efficient and sustainable as possible, not sourced from the Far East, have a modern design—and bring us closer to answering the question of the perfect coffee.

So we tinkered: In the evenings, at night, and on weekends, we were in the workshop, milling, welding, and soldering, testing and discarding. We are Flo, an engineer, and Max, a software engineer. After countless prototypes, experiments with pumps, heating elements, and control approaches, the Roxy emerged. We developed and designed this machine entirely ourselves, from the housing to the smartphone app.

Hardware Development

The hardware is our own development, optimally matched to the components used, such as pumps and heaters. We developed both the control hardware and carried out the design, calculations, and simulations of the remaining components ourselves.

Software Development

We developed the machine code and the app ourselves. We consciously chose to avoid third-party solutions in order to implement adjustments and advancements efficiently and dynamically.
